The New York Rangers are probably several years away from having to deal with salary cap issues, but we all remember when their every transaction and roster decision was subjected to scrutiny to make sure the team stayed under the cap.
The result of the salary cap is that teams that manage their personnel well and make good hockey decisions are ultimately forced to degrade the quality of their rosters. It happened to the Rangers and it will happen again. And who does that hurt in the long run? The fans.
There is one solution to this problem and the NHL should follow their brethren in the NBA and MLB and go the route of the luxury tax.
