There was a (minor) trade involving the New York Rangers on Wednesday afternoon before this snoozefest masquerading as the trade deadline ended. It involved Hartford Wolf Pack forward Justin Fontaine going to Canada for forward Taylor Beck.
Fontaine, a former member of the Minnesota Wild’s bottom six, had tallied nine goals and 21 assists for the last-place Wolf Pack through 50 games. Fontaine is a smaller forward, standing in at 5’10” and weighing in at 175 lbs.
He is also 29 years of age and would have been an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. This is the second time in as many days that he have seen the Rangers deal a Hartford player who is about to become a UFA.
