Hockey legend Mark Messier lived up to his Rangers nickname “The Messiah” on Thursday, joining a community prayer session outside the shuttered Kingsbridge Armory in hopes of divine intervention in his plans to build the world’s largest ice rink.
Messier’s plans for the $350 million Bronx project have been put on ice by the city’s Economic Development Corporation, which is questioning his funding despite the state committing a $138 million loan toward the construction’s first phase.
Messier joined 100 neighborhood kids, community leaders and clergy on what was a “National Day of Prayer” in asking for city leaders to see the light and release the lease on the property.
