Imagine the careers of both Henrik Lundqvist and Alex Ovechkin expiring without a Stanley Cup.
It’s hard to believe that’s a possibility, and there’s certainly still time. But Lundqvist, 33, and Ovechkin, 30, aren’t kids anymore, and with two of their generation’s brightest stars still without a championship entering Tuesday night’s showdown at the Garden, it was fair to ask which of these two – or if either – ever will raise Lord Stanley’s chalice.
Lundqvist has won a Vezina Trophy, reached two Eastern Conference finals and one Cup Final, and he is the only NHL goaltender ever to have won 20 or more games in his first 10 pro seasons.
