Longtime New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist agrees with Washington Capitals

Henrik Lundqvist has agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Capitals worth $1.5 million, the team announced Friday.

Lundqvist's 15-year run with the Rangers ended in September when the team bought out the final year of his contract. The 38-year-old became an unrestricted free agent in a crowded field of goaltenders. Lundqvist still has a desire to win a Stanley Cup, which has eluded him, and signing with one of the Rangers' Metropolitan Division rivals allows him to stay on the East Coast with his wife and two daughters.

Lundqvist has a lengthy history of playing against the Capitals; he has faced them in five playoff series in his career, winning three of them.
