Late NYPD detective’s badge brings Rangers more than lottery luck

Jeff Gorton had more than luck with him. The Rangers general manager had a symbol of heroism and courage, too.

At the NHL draft lottery in Toronto on Tuesday night, Gorton carried the badge of Steven McDonald, given to him by Conor and Patti Ann McDonald, the son and widow of the late NYPD detective. As fortune would have it, the Rangers moved up four spots to the second-overall pick.

“My dad was the type of individual when somebody needed help or we needed a good luck charm, he was already trying to pull out anything spiritual he thought could work,” Conor told The Post in a phone interview.
