Rangers South just added another member.
Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who was bought out last week by the Rangers, has agreed to a one-year, $1.75 million contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The 30-year-old New Rochelle native’s rocky two-year homecoming came to an end as the Rangers needed salary-cap relief after the big summer acquisitions of Artemi Panarin and Jacob Trouba. The Rangers bought out the final two years of Shattenkirk’s four-year deal which carried a $6.65 million cap hit. That leaves $1,483,333 of dead money on the Rangers’ cap next season before it balloons to more than $6 million for 2020-21 then drops back to $1,433,333 for two more years.
