Sunday night's Rangers and Red Wings game at the Garden felt like it would go on scoreless forever. Thankfully, the NHL's 3-on-3 overtime saved the day in the Blueshirts' favor.
Kevin Klein buried the winning and only goal of 1-0 OT win over Detroit at 1:59 of the extra period, off assists from Kevin Hayes and Chris Kreider. Kreider cleared a bouncing rebound off a Gustav Nyquist shot that had dribbled through Henrik Lundqvist after the initial save to start the rush the other way.
Behind Lundqvist's shutout, the Rangers (34-19-6, 74 points), improved to 8-3-1 in 12 straight games without injured forward Rick Nash and 6-0-1 in seven without captain Ryan McDonagh, including recent games against Philadelphia and Toronto in which he was injured in the first period.
