SAN JOSE — The news this weekend that the National Hockey League’s puck tracking system can capture movement at the rate of 2,000 times a second comes just in time. The sport’s new wave is coming quickly, with a youthful kick.
And Mathew Barzal of the Islanders is a huge part of it.
Barzal skated with Sidney Crosby, his idol, and helped the Metropolitan Division win the three-on-three tournament that constitutes the NHL All-Star Game. Barzal scored two goals and had five points (tying Crosby for the team lead) in a 10-5 win over the Central Division in the final at SAP Center.
