When one NHL team after another came knocking at free agent Jimmy Vesey’s door this summer, it wasn’t exactly the first time the kid from North Reading, Mass., had been recruited.
But it was close.
“To be honest, I didn’t have many colleges at all recruiting me [when] I was still in high school,” the 23-year-old Blueshirts rookie told The Post on Thursday, hours before his NHL debut in the Rangers-Islanders opener at the Garden. “I didn’t even make the varsity when I was a sophomore, so it was almost only Ivy League schools that were interested in me because I had done well academically.
