Henrik Lundqvist not only got a day off from practice on Tuesday, the Rangers franchise goalie is also set to sit and watch his backup, Alex Georgiev, start against the Islanders on Wednesday night in the Garden.
The 36-year-old Lundqvist has started 17 of the team’s first 21 games, with the most recent of Georgiev’s four starts coming Nov. 10 in Columbus. The 22-year-old Bulgarian also came out for the beginning of the third period when these two teams met Thursday, a 7-5 drubbing by the Islanders that chased Lundqvist after he allowed five goals on 17 shots.
