PITTSBURGH — The foundation of the Rangers postseason hopes shook on Wednesday night, when the stick of teammate Marc Staal got through the mask of goalie Henrik Lundqvist and apparently hit him in the right eye. Lundqvist played briefly after the injury, but did not return to the game for the second period.
The injury happened late with 46.2 seconds remaining in the first period of Game 1 of their first-round series against the Penguins at CONSOL Energy Center, as Staal was battling in front with Oskar Sundqvist.
Lundqvist went to the ice and squirmed in pain for about 30 seconds.
