So it looks as if it took Glen Sather stepping aside as Rangers general manager in order to get the proper respect out West.
The president of the Blueshirts, who handed down his GM role to Jeff Gorton just before the July 1 opening of free agency, will be honored by the Oilers before a game at Rexall Place on Dec. 11, when the Rangers are in Edmonton. Sather led the Oilers to one of the great dynasties in NHL history, coaching the Stanley Cup-winning teams of 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988. He added a fifth in 1990 as the team’s president and GM.
