VANCOUVER, British Columbia — A day later, Alex Georgiev was still feeling some lingering effects of getting hit in the helmet by his own teammate’s stick in the Rangers’ 3-2 overtime loss Monday against the Oilers.
As he unsuccessfully tried to stop the Oilers’ second goal in the first period, the Rangers’ backup goalie was first clipped in the head by the stick of Zack Kassian. Then he endured a harder strike from Fredrik Claesson’s stick, also to the helmet, which sent him falling to the ice as Matt Benning’s slap shot found the back of the net.
