BUFFALO — The Rangers have gone from saying Dylan McIlrath’s knee injury was “not expected to be serious” to realizing their rookie defenseman is going to be out “a couple of weeks.”
McIlrath was reevaluated on Tuesday and appears to have an issue in his right kneecap as a result of a hit into the boards from Islanders agitator Cal Clutterbuck during Sunday’s 6-4 loss to the Isles at the Garden.
“I think I said day-to-day, it’s going to be more in vicinity of a couple of weeks here,” coach Alain Vigneault said before the Rangers’ ugly 4-2 win over the Sabres at First Niagara Center on Tuesday night.
