David Quinn picks up first Rangers win, but it wasn’t pretty

Modal Trigger

Brett Howden celebrates after scoring a goal in the Rangers' 3-2.overtime win Wednesday night.

No matter how it looked, David Quinn will take his first win as a NHL head coach.

The Rangers got their first-year headman his first victory with an ugly, 3-2 overtime win over the Sharks on Thursday night at the Garden. After being down for most of the game and finally tying it with 2:39 left in regulation, the Blueshirts got the game-winner from Brady Skjei just 37 seconds into the three-on-three extra period.

The Rangers (1-3-0) had started the season quite slowly under Quinn, and barely avoided tying the club’s worst start in 20 years.
