Through 36 games, Henrik Lundqvist has started 21 times with Alexander Georgiev rightfully earning his near-equal share of time in the crease. While a playoff appearance is far from a foregone conclusion, the team has performed admirably enough to be considered in the mix through December.
The cause of the team’s positioning, largely, has been the play of the netminders, who have faced an average of 34.6 shots per game, a number exceeded only by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Despite the heavy workload, the Lundqvist and Georgiev tandem has performed tremendously. Evolving Hockey shows both netminders falling in the top-10 in goals saved above expected, a metric used to calculate how goaltenders are playing considering the chances they face.
