NHL commissioner Gary Bettman stepped to the podium Friday night and announced the Edmonton Oilers’ trade of the NHL draft’s 16th overall pick to the New York … Islanders.
And with that, Cam Talbot remained a Ranger into Saturday, despite rampant reports and expectations that Glen Sather would trade his backup goalie before the conclusion of Friday’s first round.
With several NHL clubs in need of a netminder, several goaltenders available and Talbot near the top of many teams’ wish lists, a Talbot trade was expected to be the first deal to set the goalie market and cause the rest of the dominoes to fall.
