Bruins castoff carries chip into first full year with Rangers

Ryan Spooner needed a change.

That much he made clear as he settles into his first full year with the Rangers following his February acquisition from the Bruins ahead of last season’s trade deadline, part of the deal that sent Rick Nash to Boston. The 26-year-old Spooner is also settling into his first season of his two-year, $8 million contract he signed this summer as a restricted free agent, a deal he felt was a commitment by his current team that he never got from the Bruins.

“I was on a one-year deal with the Bruins, and with that deal, they basically said I didn’t earn myself a second year.
