For all of the chaos that has surrounded the Rangers during this COVID-shortened season, today’s news takes the cake in the unexpected department. With three games to go in yet another season without playoff hockey, general manager Jeff Gorton and President of Hockey Operations John Davidson have reportedly been fired, as per Larry Brooks and later confirmed by other sources:
BREAKING. Shocker. Rangers have fired John Davidson and Jeff Gorton, Post has learned. Chris Drury will remain with organization and will have prominent role.

Given the sudden nature of the firing, it’s a wonder if this was due to the team’s performance, as a firing after the season would be the more logical remedy to that.
