All NHL teams are allowed to dress 20 players for each game. Additionally, each team is limited to a 23-man active roster. The New York Rangers, like all NHL teams, will go into training camp with a surplus of players and will use that time to come up with the list of 23 players who will be filed with the NHL as the “Opening Day Playing Roster.”
It’s that roster that accounts for the team’s salary cap. That is an additional factor that could affect the final make-up of the roster.
That 23-man roster should consists of two goalies, 14 forwards and seven defensemen though they could carry 13 forwards and eight blueliners.
