Alain Vigneault’s lineup changes fail to produce desired results

WASHINGTON — Rangers coach Alain Vigneault was rather coy before the game about any possible adjustments to his lineup, and he even threw a bit of misdirection out there with misleading forward lines in warmups.

But come the start of Game 4, Vigneault had tried to spark his offensive with two new combinations — and got the same lowly result, losing 2-1 to the Capitals and going down in the second-round, best-of-seven series, 3-1, forcing a do-or-die Game 5 at the Garden on Friday night.

“As a coach, you have to do what you feel is best for your team,” Vigneault said before the game.
