JUPITER, Fla. -- New York Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler, who recently began throwing from the slope of the mound, threw from the rubber Tuesday for the first time since having Tommy John surgery last March, the New York Post reported.
Wheeler originally expected to throw from a mound in January, but the Mets slowed him down after having success with an elongated rehab period for Matt Harvey. Team officials expect Wheeler to return to the majors about July 1.
Also back at the complex, according to the Post:
Third baseman David Wright took batting practice from Josh Edgin.
