It is a strange limbo that injured players live in. Technically part of the team, sure, but not part of the day-to-day grind, they watch on television and try to keep up through text messages and occasional visits.
It's surreal.
Not so long ago, Zack Wheeler was a huge part of the Mets rebuilding process and then the 25-year-old righthander was sitting home in Atlanta watching on TV when all those plans and hopes came to fruition this fall.
“It’s hard. I am so happy for them. I mean, of course you are happy for your friends, you are happy for the team,” Wheeler said by phone Thursday.
