PORT ST. LUCIE — Zack Wheeler wasn’t thrilled with his mechanics, but otherwise had little to complain about following his Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday.
The Mets right-hander surrendered two unearned runs on one hit in the first inning and was then removed, on a day when his team lost 14-4 to the Tigers at First Data Field.
J.D. Davis’ fielding error at first base and Wheeler’s wild pitch helped the Tigers score the gift runs.
“I think the biggest thing for me is getting myself mechanically together,” Wheeler said. “I am healthy and just want to be consistent and get my mechanics straight pretty soon.
