Seems pretty simple regarding the Mets’ interest in Jose Reyes:
They should give him the opportunity to rebrand himself in the land of second chances: Las Vegas. And provide him with a quick opt-out so he won’t get stuck in the sticks. (Reyes can become a free agent Saturday, as long as the Rockies don’t find a team willing to trade for him.)
Reyes shouldn’t be the Mets’ starting shortstop because the Mets currently employ a superior everyday shortstop in Asdrubal Cabrera. He shouldn’t become an instant utility man because he has played exclusively at shortstop since 2005 (and only the diehards remember when the Mets switched him to second base in 2004 to make room for Kazuo Matsui.
