Yoenis Cespedes underwent surgery today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, the Mets announced this afternoon. He will now officially miss the remainder of the 2019 season.
This news comes in the aftermath of Monday’s announcement that Cespedes suffered a “violent fall” on his ranch that resulted in multiple fractures of his right ankle. This surgery is presumably meant to repair the damage incurred by that fall, although the Mets have not been forthcoming with any specifics regarding the surgery so far.
Cespedes had been spending the 2019 season rehabbing from last summer’s dual heel surgery, which he underwent to remove calcifications.
