Yoenis Cespedes’ rocky postseason ended in ugly fashion Sunday night when he was forced from Game 5 after fouling a ball off his left knee during a sixth-inning at-bat of the Mets 7-2, 12-inning loss to the Royals that finished the World Series.
Cespedes stayed on the ground and was examined by the training staff and stayed in the game long enough to pop out to short, hobbling down toward first base before Alcides Escobar caught the ball.
After Travis d’Arnaud grounded out to end the inning, Juan Lagares entered the game in the top of the seventh to replace Cespedes in center.
