Yoenis Cespedes Is Set to Return to the Mets, and None Too Soon

ATLANTA — The Mets may not be whole again for several more months, but at least on Saturday, they will welcome back an important part of their team. Yoenis Cespedes, the Mets’ All-Star outfielder and highest-paid player, will be activated from the disabled list.

Mets Manager Terry Collins said Cespedes would play in one game of Saturday’s day-night doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets are taking advantage of the 26th-man rule, which allows teams to add an extra player for a doubleheader. But that is a one-day provision. More significant is that Cespedes, the Mets’ most dynamic everyday player, will finally be back in the lineup after a six-week absence with a frustrating leg injury.
