Yoenis Cespedes has a fractured ankle after accident on ranch

Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen announced today that team learned on Saturday night that outfielder Yoenis Cespedes broke his right ankle falling into a “violent fall into a hole” on his ranch.

Van Wagenen went on to say that “That’s the story from his standpoint,” when asked to elaborate further on the incident. Van Wagenen also made sure to say that it was not after falling off a horse. Cespedes is currently in New York seeking a medical opinion.

Cespedes has not played since July 20, 2018, and he had surgery on both of his heels to remove calcifications.
