ATLANTA — Back on the field with the Mets after six weeks of tending to a strained left hamstring and a sore quadriceps, Yoenis Cespedes made his return memorable. He hit a grand slam in the ninth inning of a tense 6-1 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday — the first half of a day-night doubleheader.
Robert Gsellman, the Mets’ starter, continued a recent stretch of improvement, throwing six and two-third scoreless innings, and despite three errors and uneven pitching from the bullpen, the Mets were clinging to a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth when Cespedes went to the plate and homered off the right-handed reliever Luke Jackson.
