ST. PETERSBURG -- The Mets announced Sunday that team captain David Wright will serve as designated hitter on Monday and play third base on Tuesday when the seven-time all-star begins a rehab assignment for Class A Advanced St. Lucie.
Wright has been sidelined since April 14, when he strained his right hamstring against the Phillies. The 12-year veteran was later diagnosed with spinal stenosis - a narrowing of spaces in the spine which causes pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. Wright's condition is in the lower back, which is where 75 percent of such cases occur.
