Mets 3B David Wright has been diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement and has been sent back to New York to be examined, GM Sandy Alderson said on Tuesday.
Wright does not have structural damage in the shoulder and surgery is not necessary. However, he will be shut down from throwing for a couple of weeks, which will put his status for Opening Day in question.
According to Alderson, Wright will soon return to Port St. Lucie and will be able to serve as a designated hitter soon after.
Wright played in his first Grapefruit League game on Saturday, going 0-for-2 as the DH during the team's 8-6 loss to the Nationals.
