No, Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard were not playing Candy Crush during Game 2 of the World Series Wednesday night. The two Mets rookie pitchers, who will start Games 3 and 4, were captured on the broadcast looking at an iPad in the dugout during the game.
“We took it out to have the scouting reports,” Matz said, “we were just comparing the scouting reports to what we were seeing.”
It’s pretty typical procedure for the two apparently. Pitching coach Dan Warthen said they have both done it before.
“All the starters are good students of the game, they use whatever tools they can,” Warthen said.
