After starting the season with a surprising 11 wins in their first 12 games, the Mets have discovered many different ways to lose. With 49 losses in their ensuing 73 games, the losing had become somewhat routine.
But for two-thirds of Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, it appeared this loss might have some added significance.
Through six innings, Rays starter Nathan Eovaldi held them without a hit, or anything even resembling a hit, with the exception of a fly ball to short left that required a diving catch from Joey Wendle in the third inning.
