ATLANTA — Mets starting pitching again labored in Wednesday’s 16-5 blowout win over the Braves as Jacob deGrom worked a laborious five innings, requiring 109 pitches. But it was absolutely Koufax-like compared to the Mets swell base running.
In the first inning with two runs already in, the Mets had one out with Jay Bruce on third and Neil Walker on second. The key phrase there was “one out.” Jose Reyes lifted a pop than Atlanta shortstop Dansby Swanson easily handled. But Walker was running toward third, apparently convinced the play started with two out. Either that or he really needed to chat with Bruce.
