WASHINGTON — Wilson Ramos received a final opportunity to extend his hitting streak Wednesday and made the attempt memorable.
In a nine-pitch at-bat against Sean Doolittle in the ninth inning, the Mets catcher hit a grounder that Howie Kendrick gloved diving. Ramos sprinted toward first, but was out in a close play. He finished 0-for-4 with a walk to conclude a 26-game hitting streak.
“I was like, ‘Great play. Good at-bat,’ ” Ramos said after the Mets’ 8-4 victory over the Nationals. “I fought that at-bat, but I thought that was the last chance to keep it going, but I was really tired at that moment.
