Though the team has yet to make the official announcement about today’s starting pitcher, Wilmer Font told reporters Tuesday that he will be starting the Mets’ Wednesday afternoon game against the Padres. The 28 year old right-hander will be making his Mets debut after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.
The team did announce that Font was activated yesterday, and Corey Oswalt was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for him on the roster.
Font has put up a mediocre 5.79 ERA this season, but his peripherals have been strong, striking out over 11 batters per nine innings.
