Of course, it had to end this way. The weirdest trade deadline week in franchise history couldn't simply conclude with a pedestrian finish. It had to encapsulate something bigger, more dramatic, unbelievable.

And so it went Friday night, when Wilmer Flores' solo shot in the 12th inning gave the Mets a 2-1 victory over the Nationals.

Yes, the same Flores who teared up at shortstop on Wednesday night, thinking he had been traded to the Brewers in a deal that ultimately fell apart.
