After a lackluster first two years in major leagues with the New York Mets since his debut for them back in August in 2017, Dominic Smith has been a pleasant surprise for New York through the first month of the 2019 season.
Following his struggles in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, many fans were ready to write off Smith in favor of rookie first baseman Peter Alonso.
However, Smith had a very strong showing in Spring Training for New York this season, where he batted .321 with a .367 OBP in 19 games, along with 2 home runs and 12 RBI.
