Why Terry Collins won’t be joining Mets’ coaching staff

Terry Collins won’t be returning to the Mets’ dugout next season.

The former Mets manager’s name surfaced in the past week as a potential bench coach possibility for Carlos Beltran, but an industry source indicated Saturday the 70-year-old Collins remains content in his role as a special assistant for the organization and is not a candidate for the job. The source added that Collins will provide Beltran, the Mets’ new manager, with any help he needs from his advisory position.

Jerry Narron is the only candidate for the bench coach position whose name has surfaced to this point.
