Terry Collins has always looked upon this managerial stint with the Mets as a gift.
He had gone a dozen years without a job when the Mets tabbed him. He did not have the résumé of success in the dugout that might afford him another chance after such a long time. And as the game was turning more to younger managers – often those who had distinguished playing careers or who might be receptive to the analytics being used more in the sport – Collins never had been a major league player and his hair color was distinctly silver.
