SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Any upgrade at catcher this offseason by the Mets will likely entail pursuing a veteran who can be paired with Wilson Ramos.
The high end of the catching market includes Yasmani Grandal, but as club officials evaluate their needs, there is skepticism they would be in position to find a taker for the $10.25 million remaining on Ramos’ contract for 2020. Ramos brings a bat to the Mets lineup, but his defense was problematic to the point Noah Synderdaard wanted Rene Rivera and Tomas Nido catching him later in the year.
Grandal last offseason rejected a four-year offer from the Mets worth $60 million.
