Why great fans boo their hearts out

See, this is part of the deal, too: The booing, the disappointment, the anger that manifests itself when the home team comes up short. That’s what happens when you engage a passionate fan base. The cheers can be deafening.

But so can the opposite.

A few years ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder saw their season end in a grossly disappointing loss at home, that team’s window of championship opportunity closing ever so slightly (all of this before Kevin Durant’s foot injury). As the final seconds bled off the clock the Thunder players were treated to an extended standing ovation.
