Let’s take a quick look at the New York Mets thus far into the 2021 season. They are in first place in the National League East by a relatively comfortable margin. Jacob deGrom is in the midst of what could be the greatest season for a pitcher — ever. And for the first time in a long time, they appear to have a good, young core around which to build. So why are we all miserable?
Well, you could argue the Mets are in first place by default. The NL East is shaping up to be the weakest division in baseball.
