Where Mickey Callaway really stands in desperate Mets times

SAN DIEGO — Mickey Callaway’s footing as Mets manager remains secure, but for how long?

A club source on Tuesday described it as “way, way too early,” when asked about the possibility of general manager Brodie Van Wagenen dumping his inherited manager amid a slide that had pushed the Mets three games below .500, entering their game at Petco Park against the Padres.

The source added there was a belief within the organization the Mets would rectify their recent offensive shortcomings and pair that with a starting rotation that has rebounded after a sluggish stretch, and that would translate into wins.
