Where are they now: Steve Henderson, once traded for Seaver

The day Steve Henderson had one of his most memorable moments as a Met – aside from the “Midnight Massacre” Tom Seaver trade, of course – was also one of the best days of his life, but for a much different reason.

Hours before he hit his famous “Hendu Can Do” homer against the Giants on June 14, 1980, lifting the Mets to an improbable walk-off win in a game they once trailed by six runs, Henderson asked his wife, Pam, to marry him.

“She had just come into town and I gave her a ring at the airport – LaGuardia,” Henderson said as he sat in the visiting dugout at Citi Field recently.
