Wheeler's rehab will stay in St. Lucie, could resume Thursday

Mets RHP Zack Wheeler will make his next rehab start with Single-A St. Lucie, possibly as soon as Thursday, Mets GM Sandy Alderson told reporters Tuesday.

According to Alderson, Wheeler will throw 40 pitches.

He pitched in a game this past Saturday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. However, the appearance was cut short after one inning due to rain.

Wheeler went 11-11 with a 3.54 ERA for the Mets in 2014 before undergoing surgery in March 2015. His return to action was delayed by five weeks because of surgery to remove an undissolved stitch and nerve irritation that led to a cortisone shot.
