Wheeler felt tenderness in elbow during recent bullpen session

Mets RHP Zack Wheeler felt some tenderness in his right elbow during a recent bullpen session and will likely be given an extra day of rest, pitching coach Dan Warthen said Wednesday in Port St. Lucie.

The Mets believe the discomfort Wheeler felt was due to scar tissue, which remains from his Tommy John surgery.

Wheeler's recent physical revealed no structural damage, but the team will take things slowly with him during Spring Training, Warthen explained.

Wheeler's innings limit this season will likely be in the low-100 range.

He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2014 due to the Tommy John surgery and multiple setbacks during the rehab process.
