The Mets shocked the baseball world late Friday night when they were able to get Yoenis Cespedes to agree to a three-year deal for $75 million with a one-year opt-out clause. It is the kind of move that can neutralize 2 feet of snow, if only in the imagination.

It is the kind of maneuver that can make Mets fans feel like they are real players again, that they have as much right as anyone else to believe they will play in the World Series this October.
